Blast assessment consulting

In industrial facilities, accidental explosions (AE) can generate blast waves that can damage the integrity of the structure if the structure was not specifically designed to resist an explosion.  Such explosions can occur as a consequence of an explosive atmosphere, created by the sudden release of a liquid or gas at high pressure, or an explosive compound detonating by accident or design.

Structural Blast Engineering is a way of designing so that the primary structure is resilient and has sufficient connection capacity and ductility to minimize the consequences should an accidental explosion occur. Performance-based recommendations can then be integrated into contractual clauses for projects. Lastly, structural blast engineering can also lead to cost-effective adjustments to existing structures.

Dynamis has extensive experience in hazard assessment and mitigation of chemical, petroleum, pharmaceutical industry plants.

As a result, Repsol commissioned Dynamis to perform blast assessment for one of their refineries.  Dynamis performed dynamic inelastic response history analysis of the control building (reinforced concrete structure) subjected to blast-induced shock waves.

Dynamis Mission

Dynamis has developed an in-house software for inelastic analysis of structural members subjected to blast-induced shock waves. Building elements can be modeled with multifiber elements. The software allows the user to manually enter a series of data points representing any type of blast pressure waveform.

Dynamis’s performance-based blast assessment aims to enhance safety and security measures in industrial facilities, mitigating possible blast impacts as a result of accidental explosions.
